NEW RESEARCH ON ECOLOGY, ETHOLOGY, MORPHOLOGY AND EVOLUTION OF THE POPULAR RED BEET POPULATION (Melasoma populi L. 1758)

The present paper aimed at research on the dynamics and evolution of the red beetle pollination of the poplar Melasoma populi L. from the black poplar plantation from Copsa Mica (Sibiu, Romania). This plantation is located at the exit of Copsa Mica, more precisely in the immediate vicinity of the local animal fair. The plantation was established in 2009 through planting material in the form of seedlings from Austria. The planting was carried out by students of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Food Industry and Environmental Protection. The number of seedlings planted was 90 pieces, but now there are only 45 specimens left, the others have dried up or been attacked by diseases, pests and wild animals over time. In order to be able to inventory and study the evolution of the population of the pest Melasoma populi L. we made for two years 2018-2019, field trips, to study the ecology, ethology, morphology and population dynamics of this pest.
